South Street lies adjacent to Exeter Cathedral with two roads leading off to its grounds. It has
a variety of shops and places to eat. Retailers include galleries, estate agents and hair stylist. On Thursdays, for those
who wish to sample the local area produce, the street also hosts the Exeter Farmers Market.
Although this road has always been a main route to the city from the south, the section at the bottom was transformed into a very busy junction of the inner bypass. The nearby South Gate was demolished, roads widened and its name changed from Southgate Street to South Street.
