These commemorative markers are placed in public locations as a historical reference and remembrance to notable people, significant events, and historic buildings connected with the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Exeter Blue Plaques Trail<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Often referred to as the <strong>Exeter Blue Plaques trail<\/strong>, these plaques can be found across the city centre and surrounding areas, helping visitors and residents discover the stories behind Exeter\u2019s past.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.exeterviews.co.uk\/exeter-photographs\/exeters-blue-plaques\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/www.exeterviews.co.uk\/exeter-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/dickens152312802.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-602\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.0441001571673518;width:290px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.exeterviews.co.uk\/exeter-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/dickens152312802.webp 450w, https:\/\/www.exeterviews.co.uk\/exeter-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/dickens152312802-300x287.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Charles Dickens &amp; Thomas Latimer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>A scheme administered by the Exeter Civic Society is dedicated to installing future plaques as monuments to mark remarkable episodes and create interest in the city\u2019s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitors to Exeter, as well as local residents, are encouraged to look out for these plaques and learn more about how these connections link Exeter today with its rich past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over time, this page aims to build a growing collection of the plaques and tributes that can be discovered around the city \u2014 not just for visitors to find, but also for residents, many of whom may still be unaware of their existence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Commemorative Signs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.exeterviews.co.uk\/exeter-photographs\/exeters-blue-plaques\/nggallery\/image\/castle122716904\">Rougement Castle<\/a><br><em>Location: The gatehouse of the Castle<\/em><br>Installed for the Queen\u2019s Silver Jubilee in 1977.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.exeterviews.co.uk\/exeter-photographs\/exeters-blue-plaques\/nggallery\/image\/witches122656668\">The Devon Witches Plaque<\/a><br><em>Location: Rougemont Castle gatehouse<\/em><br>The last people to be executed for witchcraft in England.
